Here Are All The Challenge Rewards You Can Get From Fortnite's Big Birthday Event Tomorrow

Fortnite is turning 1. Technically, Fortnite: Battle Royale isn’t turning one–that happens in September– but July 25 marks the one year anniversary of Fortnite: Save the World, the zombie survival game that started it all. And Fortnite is celebrating in both of its modes with a special hero in Save the World and a special limited time challenge in Battle Royale. The action starts tomorrow, and Epic detailed the rewards you can earn in a recent blog post:

There are four rewards to be earned in total. For playing 14 matches, you can get a simple 5,000 XP, useful if you’re levelling some skins. For dealing 1,000 damage to opponents you get a special cupcake emote, useful for whoever uses those sticker-style emotes. For dancing in front of 10 different birthday cakes you get a sort of balloons and cake spray, useful for wishing friends an in-game birthday. For completing all three you also get the main event: a birthday cake back bling, straight out of the absurdist school of Fortnite.

In all likelihood, we’ll also see a special skin in the shop tomorrow night, probably along the lines of the image in this post.

This is actually something a little bit new for Fortnite: Battle Royale. The game has had in-game events before and usually chooses to honor a holiday or something like that with a limited time skin or a special effect on the grenade launcher–Lunar New Year also saw new treasure shrines dotting the map. But Epic Games has yet to tie challenges and rewards to anything but the battle pass, something that other developers of games-as-service do pretty regularly. That’s because it works: Fortnite is doing a good job of giving us reasons to tune in every week for new challenges, but it wouldn’t hurt to have the occasional quicker event to help gin up excitement. If the developer deems this a success I imagine we’ll start seeing similar things for other holidays. The fall has a few on offer, or so I’m told.

Stay tuned tomorrow, because there may well be some more surprises in store. It looks like the Battle Bus might be getting a festive upgrade.
