As the imported retail madness of Black Friday deals continues to consume the UK, WIRED has hand-picked the best laptop deals you’ll find online.
From budget laptops with a decent processor to monstrously powerful gaming and workstation systems that could take on any desktop for power, our Black Friday deals list has you sorted.
What is it? Weighing just under 1kg, with a width of 1.4cm, the exceedingly slim Zenbook is the perfect travel companion for those who need to pack light. Despite its compact dimensions, it has a specification that’ll handle any desktop task you care to throw at it, with an Intel Core i5-8250U CPU, 8GB RAM and a 256 GB SSD.
How much are you saving? Asus’s stunning 13.3in ultraportable – available from Amazon in its very attractive royal blue colour variant – is good value at the best of times, but that £200 discount taking it down to £700 makes this one of the best deals we’ve ever seen on this spec.
What is it? A Chromebook makes a great laptop for a child and the 11.6-inch Asus C202SA has a 10-hour battery life and will get the job done nicely. It won’t play Fortnite (if that’s what you need, look elsewhere), but it’s perfect for homework and browsing the internet.
How good is the deal? It’s not quite as good as the Amazon website suggests, but it’s still a solid £40 saving at £129.
What is it? Microsoft’s Surface Pro range are the ultimate Windows 10 hybrid tablets, with hardware and software optimised to work perfectly together. This 12.3in Surface Pro 6 is equipped with a powerful Intel Core i5-8250U, 8GB RAM and a 128GB SSD. It has an estimated 13-and-a-half hour battery life and comes with a type cover keyboard. You’ll have to buy a Surface Pen stylus separately if you want one for control or illustration, though.
How much are you saving? Usually priced at £1,029, the Surface Pro 6 model LJK-00003 is currently reduced 27 per cent to £749 in Amazon’s Black Friday sale. Currys PC World is matching that price, complete with same-day in-store collection.
What is it? The 15.6in Lenovo IdeaPad 330-15ARR is a solid, budget-friendly laptop that doesn’t suffer from the underpowered processors so often associated with low-cost portable PCs. Instead, you get a very capable AMD Ryzen 3 2200U processor with integrated Vega 3 GPU, a generous 8GB of RAM and a 2TB hard disk. While the spinning platter HDD isn’t as fast as an SSD, you get plenty of storage to make up for it.
How much are you saving? Usually priced at £519, this Currys PC World deal knocks £140 off the standard retail price. This particular specification isn’t widely available elsewhere, but it’s one of the best feature sets we’ve seen among the many variations of this laptop on sale.
What is it? Laptops Direct is home to the best MacBook Pro deal we’ve found this Black Friday, with this immensely powerful and very stylish beast, equipped with an Intel Core i7 processor and 16GB RAM. Its 15in display has a resolution of 2,880 x 1,800. You might want to invest in a high-capacity external hard disk to supplement the fast 256GB SSD if you plan on taking advantage of that screen for design and image editing work, though.
How much are you saving? Discounted by £590, this particular model is end of life and has sold out at most retailers. Although it’s no longer a current-generation flagship, it’s nonetheless stonkingly powerful and equipped with the gloriously high-quality display, powerful processor and flashing Touch Bar you’d expect from a top-notch MacBook Pro.
What is it? The Asus TUF Gaming FX504GM is built for durability, as well as performance gaming. Stand-out features include 15.5in, 1,920 x 1,080 screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, a 6GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 GPU and a very capable Intel Core i5-8300H CPU. The matte panel might not be to everyone’s taste and a memory upgrade wouldn’t hurt, but this is a fantastic entry point to the world of serious gaming laptops.
How much are you saving? This version of the FX504GM usually costs almost £1,220, but its Black Friday offer price knocks that down to just under £890. This particular deal also throws in a laptop backpack, mouse and games including Battlefield 1 and PUBG: perfect for esports tournaments… or a potentially tedious holiday.
What is it? We’ve already featured one variant of the popular Lenovo IdeaPad 330 in this year’s Black Friday laptop offers; this is its faster, more powerful sibling. Equipped with an AMD Ryzen 5 2500U CPU, 8GB RAM and a 256GB SSD, this 15.5in laptop has all the power you’ll need for any home-computing task, and the integrated Vega 8 GPU will even produce decent 3D gaming frame rates at reduced quality settings.
How much are you saving? Currys PC World is selling this Ryzen 5 based laptop for £479. That’s £221 off its own reference retail price, and around £70 less than we can find for the same specification at any other retailer right now.
