Agawam church hosts flu clinic

Written by admin

AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) – Agawam's Sacred Heart Parish will be hosting a flu clinic Sunday morning.

A flu report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows flu activity in the U.S. is low right now, but it's "expected to pick up in the coming weeks."

Which is why it's important to know the difference between the flu and cold symptoms.

Colds are usually milder than the flu and last for about a week. While the flu, can make you feel quite ill.

Symptoms can last anywhere from a few days to weeks, and could result in serious health problems, such as pneumonia and even death.

Flu symptoms are more intense than the common cold and can include a sore throat, fever, headache, muscle aches and soreness, just to name a few.

And people are most contagious in the first 3 to 4 days of the illness.

So just like the cold, try to avoid close contact with people who are sick. Be sure to wash your hands often with soap and water to stop the spread of germs.

Your best protection from the flu is to get vaccinated every year.

The Sacred Heart flu clinic will be opened to the public after the 11 a.m. Mass in the Parish Center and include a short talk on how to prevent colds and the flu.

People attending the clinic should bring their insurance information.
