You May Be Able To Buy Fortnite's Samsung Galaxy Skin After The Note9 Promotion Ends

The Galaxy skin has been poised to become one of the most rare skins in all of Fortnite, due to the fact that it’s tied to a purchase promotion for the Samsung Note9 phone and the Tab4 tablet. Buy those (extremely expensive) devices, and get the skin that you can’t get anywhere else.

Or can you?

That’s been the subject of debate among the Fortnite leaking community over the past day or so, as there seems to be some muddled messaging about the fate of the Galaxy skin once this promotion ends. The theory is that once the Note9 deal is over, the skin will be sold as part of a starter pack for Samsung users in the store, meaning anyone can buy it if they shell out a couple bucks.

Some leakers have publisher this info, others have retracted it. I tried to do some research on this myself with…mixed results.

While the promo image for the skin calls it “exclusive,” there’s a caveat at the end that leads to the following clarification:

“Available until 12/31/18 for Note9 and Tab S4 purchasers only; will be permanent for any owners who receive it prior to 12/31/18.”

Now, you can read that as the skin going away forever after 12/31, or you can read that as the expiration period for the trial, after which the skin is more widely available.

I took my questions to a handful of Samsung support agents, many of whom seemed to have trouble understanding what I was asking, but eventually I was connected to someone on the promotions team who seemed to confirm this, if I’m understanding them correctly.

I asked several times about the fate of the skin, until ultimately I had the rep tell me that I was “correct” when I asked if the skin would be sold by Samsung after the promotion ends (supposedly the purchase period to qualify ends five days from now).

This correlates to a few other Samsung support chats I’ve seen saying the same thing. Again, I am hesitant to take all this as definite confirmation, given the language barrier with many of these agents and how confusing several of these conversations were for me, but there does seem to be a pattern. It is unlikely that Samsung or Epic will comment in any official capacity about this while this promotion is ongoing, but I do feel confident recommending that you may want to think twice about buying a Note9 or a Tab4 if the skin was your primary motivating factor.

Like no, it’s probably not idea to spend $1000 on a phone for a new skin anyway, but I do think there’s a solid chance that this skin will be available somehow after this promotion ends. It may not be until next year, but it would make sense for Samsung/Epic to sell this separately in some sort of “Galaxy starter pack” because lord knows millions of people would fork over $5 for it.

I will try to research this further, but for now, I don’t believe this skin will end up being quite as hard to come by as it initially appeared. Stay tuned for more info.
